- Mom Luby is poor and runs a speakeasy to survive. She helps to take care of the community.
- Though Mom Luby doesn't have the profile of a person who should be taking care of children she loved the children and committed to take care of them..
- Of testiment of her love and commitment to taking care of Elijah and Pudding ( her foster children) she went to the Social Security Office to get State aid so that they could go to school.
