  • Social Mental/Emotional Wellness
  • The three major categories in overall-personal wellness, are Physical, Social, and Mental/Emotional.Social Wellness: Includes how you interact with your friends, family, and people in general in social situations.According to Module 1, Lesson 3, having social wellness means to have the ability to interact and listen to others. Over the years, the digital generation has decreased the social wellness in people. With that said, some ways to improve your social wellness are to know your strengths and weaknesses, to not judge others, honoring your commitments, an being a good friend. Building and sustaining relationships with people also helps improve your social wellness. Keeping healthy and positive relationships with your friends and family is very important, especially if the interactions are in person.Mental/Emotional Wellness: is how you think, feel, and act. Your mental/emotional wellness helps determine how you handle stress and make choices. In Module 1, Lesson 4, to have emotional wellness means to be comfortable with the people around you, your surroundings, and yourself. When you feel mental or emotional tension, because of those people/surroundings/events, it means you are going through stress. Learning how to manage your stress and reduce it is very important. In Module 1, Lesson 5, it states that there are three stages of stress, the Alarm stage, Resistance stage, and Exhaustion stage. Telling yourself the stress will pass, focusing on the important stuff happening, making a plan/schedule, setting goals for yourself, being positive/open minded, taking responsibility for your actions, and recognizing your abilities/talents and putting them to use are all ways to help manage stress. Some defense strategies people use against stress are denial, escaping reality, and rationalization. These are unhealthy ways of dealing with stress. In Module 1, Lesson 6, I learned that being stressed also comes with the disadvantage of stress eating. Stressed people usually experience over/under-eating. Which are both very unhealthy and can affect your overall wellness. Ways to avoid stress eating are to eat only when you are hungry, and try not to skip your meals as for it leads to over-eating at the end of the day.YouTube video on Social/Emotional Health in Children and Adults: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hI-ZCMgPE8
