- Approach to the Innermost Cave - Still facing some doubts, Rager tells Mrs. Jones that the real reason that he stole her pocketbook was that he wanted to buy some suede shoes. Knowing that the door to the room was open, he wanted to run away at that moment despite to lesson Mrs. Jones gave him and puts Rager under pressure again.
- "Death/Rebirth" - After a long pause of nothing, Mrs. Jones gives in and tells the boy that she has done some of the same things when she was a kid. Once she explains this, Rager feels the sense of need to want to help, as opposed to running away. Given these circumstances, he is seemed to be a changed man in Mrs. Jones's eyes.
- Reward - For being disobedient to Mrs. Jones at first, the boy rewards Mrs. Jones by not running away from her at all. This shows that he has survived his previous actions and wants to leave her with the reputation that he will not be mistrustful. She thinks of this kindly and later wants to reward him with something else.
- The Road Back - Near the end of the story, Rager has the courage to ask Mrs. Jone if she needs anything done for her, but she politely declines. She then makes cocoa and talks about her personal life with him while they finish up the rest of the day. This almost wraps up Rager's journey as Mrs. Jones has taught him a true less of value. For this accomplishment, she gives him 10 dollars for the shoes as a gift.
- Resurrection - As Rager eats some more food and is given the money, he faces his final with Mrs. Jones as she tells him to never steal from anybody's pocketbook ever again and wants him to behave. After this is done, he walks away from Mrs. Jones as a different person and will not think of this action the same way ever again.
- Return with the Elixir - Seeing through his previous ways, Mrs. Jones trusts that Rager will not behave in that way again and shuts the door. At that moment, all Rager can say is "thank you ma'am" to the person that made him realize how his actions impact others. Even though he never saw her again, there is no doubt that he will keep this memory.
