  • Could you please communicate with the employer that we need medical aid due to the pandemic and the risk of ending up in hospital is much higher now.
  • I fully agree with you, I will inform him immediately.
  • Discussion with employer
  • The employees have informed me that they are in need of medical aid as the risk of them ending up in hospital now is much greater than before and they need a guarantee they will receive good health facilities.
  • We have never budgeted for something like this before and we do not have the financial means to provide it at this current moment.
  • negotiation between parties
  • They believe they need some sort of medical assistance, even if it is something small in order to assist them.
  • We would love to accommodate for the staff but at this time it is just so much to ask for but we will take it up with higher management.
  • All employees have rights to certain things and have every right in order to challenge or request it from their company should they not have some things. They will then communicate with their representative in order to represent them with the company in order to find favor in what they are requesting.
  • Collective bargaining
  • The employees are concerned about their health during the pandemic and are requesting medical aid to assist them should anything happen to them.
  • Once the employees speak with their representative, they will then inform the employer of these requests and see what they can do in order to meet and fulfil the requests of the employees.
  • Compromise between parties
  • This illustrates the employer and the representative negotiating to see if they can find a solution and give the employees what they are requesting. Here the employer must see if he can accommodate and the representative will try to find any way possible to assist the employees.
  • Employees going to the CCMA
  • We as employees have the have right to medical care and since the company is refusing to provide it to us at this difficult time, we will take this further to the CCMA.
  • The representatives job is to make sure they fight for the employees and be the best voice possible for them in order for them to be satisfied and feel as though they are cared about and heard. They will therefore explain and motivate why the employees requests or queries should be met and solved.
  • We have never provided any medical aid to our staff before and during the pandemic we are less likely to be able to provide it as finances are very tight.
  • This illustrates the employer not being able to make decisions on her own and needing to consult with management in order to see if they can assist the employees with their request. This also shows that the representative is doing a good job as they are making the employer get second opinions as they are making sense in what they are saying.
  • Higher management has come to an agreement that they are unable to provide medical aid at this time due to the pandemic unfortunately.
  • As the employees have different rights, they are allowed and can take the next step by going to the CCMA, BC, or SC in order to have their voices heard and their problem solved in order to find a solution and to be assisted.
  • The employer and higher management has spoken and unfortunately there has been no success on the matter.
