- Interest groups are organizations formed to advocate for specific causes or issues. They do not seek to directly govern but to aim to influence policies and decisions by putting pressure on elected officials and promoting their views. In the context of gun control, various interest groups hold opposing perspectives:
- Gun Control Advocates:Groups like Everytown for Gun Safety and Brady Campaign work towards implementing stricter regulations on gun ownership to enhance public safety and reduce gun-related violence.
- Guns Rights Advocates:Interest groups like the National Rifle Association (NRA) prioritize protecting second amendment rights to bear arms. Their purpose is to ensure individuals' rights to own and carry firearms remain unrestricted or minimally regulated.
- PACs - used to collect and distribute funds to support or oppose political candidates, often aligned with the same interests. PACs raise money from members, supporters, or affiliated individuals and organizations interested in supporting gun regulationsLobbying - Lobbyists advocate for or against gun control policies to align with the interest groups position. For example, interest groups can schedule meetings with lawmakers or their staff to present their views on gun control. Using data, research, and persuasive arguments, they can clearly communicate their stance on the issue and influence policy decisions.

These interactions provide a way to clearly state their stance and contrast them with rival parties.

- Democratic Party: The democratic party generally supports stricter gun control measures to reduce gun violence and enhance public safety. Their purpose in this, is to advocate for policies like universal background checks, assault weapon bans, and red flag laws to prevent gun-related tragedies.
