- After the murder of Thomas and Ann Farrow, The Stratton Brothers left a greasy fingerprint on the inside of the cash box inside the home that belonged to the victims. However, when the print was examined, there were no matches at all out of the 80,000+ sets on prints on file. And the trail ran cold. And no one knew who the murderer was.
- Despite the trail running cold, Police found that people within the town had witnessed 2 men going to and leaving the Furrow's home, masked and suspicious. And even Alfred Strattons girlfriend came clean and said her boyfriend left strangely early in the morning and returned with unexplained money. The Fingerprint found at the crimescene also matched exactly with Alfred Stratton, but during this time, fingerprinting was not fully trusted as a reliable source of identification, so the jury was antsy about using it.
