- Advantages of Feudalism:Protection and Safety: Feudalism made people feel safe and protected because knights took care of their serfs and peasants and defended their land.Local Economy: Because the peasants harvested their own food they didn’t depended on the other kingdomsLoyalty: loyalty wasn’t an option and there were really strict punishments for betraying Stability: Feudalism provided a system of social order and balance that helped maintain the functioning of kingdoms
- Since I am in charge of this manor you have to pay me gold and food taxes, and in return I will give you protection since you work here
- Since I am a peasant I work as a farmer in the Knights manors, I will pay gold and food taxes to the Knight, in return I will be protected
- Since I am a serf I am basically a peasant but I am tied to my land, I have more freedom than slaves but I am basically owned by the Knights
- Disadvantages of Feudalism1. Class divisions and social inequality: Feudalism created a strict class system, with a clear separation between the nobles and the peasants. this was also almost against human rights 2. Exploitative and oppressive: Feudalism was an exploitative system because the peasants were basically slaves of the king and the knights weren’t exactly an example of an understandable person 3. Lack of a fair legal system: In feudal societies, the clergy and the nobles served as judges in legal matters, this meant it was really unfair for the peasants since always the law was in nobles side4. Weak central government: there wasn’t a central government Instead, power was decentralized, with regional powers, this make it easier to nobles to cooperate to overthrow the king
