- Munni, get the money. The landlord is here for the rent.
- No! How are you going to buy a blanket if you pay the rent?
- Don't worry. I'll figure out another way to get the blanket. Please give me the money or else I will have to face the landlord's threats and insults.
- All right fine, I will give the money. Please give up tenant farming and work as a hired laborer to at least feed your belly.
- Halku asked Munnie for three rupees to pay the rent to the landlord.
- Munnie refused to pay him at first, but his words came charging at her like a bull, so she agreed.
- Halku felt as though he was tearing his heart out when he was going to pay his rent. He was burdened by his poverty.
- Halku slept in the cold fields, with his dog, Jabra, during the night to protect his harvest.
- Halku and Jabra went to the mango grove next to his field and built a fire to keep themselves warm.
- Jabra started barking, indicating that some wild animals were destroying the fields. But, Halku was too comfortable so he did not bother getting up.
