- Sugar Act
- New import tax for molasses and sugar! To stop those colonists from smuggling them here.
- Quartering Act
- Get out my house.
- I like this place. I think I'm going to like staying here.
- Stamp Act
- I feel disrespected!
- You have to add stamps on your magazines, it's a new act.
- 1764: British Parliament passes Sugar Act which put an import tax on molasses and other products.
- Declaratory Act
- We have authority over y'all.
- 1765: Required colonists to house British troops and provide them with food and supplies.
- Townshend Acts
- 1765: Required all colonists to buy special tax stamps for printed materials. Stamps had to be placed on newspapers, wills, licenses, insurance policies, contracts, etc.
- Intolerable Acts
- The ports are closed, more troops are going to be quartered, legislature is now abolished, and no more town hall meetings!
- 1766: Stated that Parliament had total authority over the colonies.
- I don't like how y'all think y'all own us.
- 1767: Britain would only tax products brought into the colonies - a small indirect tax on glass, lead, paper, and tea. To enforce the law, Britain allowed writs of assistance to be used.
- BOOOOOO!
- You now have taxes on glass, led, paper, and tea!
- 1774: Closed ports, quartered more troops, banned town hall meetings, and abolished legislature.
