- The British started using the Divide and Rule policy since the INC was becoming more popular.
- The INC is increasing in popularity and it can be a threat to our rule.We need use the Divide and Rule policy.We can then divide the Indians by religion and continue ruling
- In 1904 the British then divided Bengal into East and West Bengal based on religion.
- Pune
- We need to divide Bengal in two parts: West Bengal for the Hindus and East Bengal for the Muslims.
- Chennai
- But the INC strongly opposed this decision and the whole country was against it that stimulated Swadeshi and Boycott movements.
- We want to be united again!
- We want our Bengal back! We want our Bengal back!
- These movements helped in preventing the partiyon of Bengal. People were asked to boycott all British goods and only use swadeshi goods. Heaps of British clothes were burnt as an open revolt.
- Mumbai
- The Swadeshi Movement was a great success in Bengal and soon spread to other parts of the country such as Mumbai, Pune,Chennai,etc.
- Due to these political protests, in 1911, the British rulers abolished the partition of Bengal and finally the eastern and western parts of Bengal were reunited.This was a great achievement for the Indians
- Eastern and Western Bengal will be reunited and the partition is abolished.
