  • A Raisin in the Sun takes place in Chicago's Southside around the 1950s. The play follows the Younger family which is made up of Lena Younger(Mama), Beneatha Younger, Walter Less Younger, Ruth Younger(Wife to Walter), and Travis Younger(Son of Ruth and Walter). The Youngers live in poverty in a small apartment, but they all have dreams of living better. In their pursuit of a better life, they face difficulties with society and themselves.
  • Climax
  • An insurance check is arriving soon for Mama, and this causes problems with the family. Conflicting interestbrought about argumentsabout who should get it, and which is the best option. The major one is between Walter and Beneatha because Walter believes Beneatha doesn’t need the money for her educationas it is a selfish desire to become a doctor. Whoeverreceives some or all the money is decided by Mama, and Mama holds her own dream, which is growing a garden in a home. The person who receives some of the money will potentially be taking away someone else's dream in the family.
  • Falling Action
  •  Mama receives the check decides to buy a home in Clybourne Park, a notorious white neighborhood, Walter feels betrayed.As soon as Walter begins to completely give up, Mama gives Waltersixty-five hundred dollars and tells him three thousand will be for Beneatha, the rest will be for him. Walter doesn’t hesitate to invest the moneyinto the liquor store he promises will be the future for the family.Mr. Lindner from the welcoming committees tells the Youngers he will offer more money than the house cost in order to keep them out, the Youngers refuse, and he leaves.
  • Resolution
  •  Bobo, a friend and business partner of Walter, revealsthat WillyHarris,another partner, stole all the money from them. Bobo then promptly left, leaving Walter helplessly crying on the floor, having to tell the rest of the family that the money was gone as well as Beneatha’s savings for hereducation. Mama starts to attack Walter and pleads to God to give her strength.
  • Asagai comes over to talk to Beneatha and is angry that the family had been so dependent on the money of a man who had died. At the end of the dispute with Beneatha, he tells her to go to Africa with him to become a doctor and to marry him. Beneatha doesn’trespondimmediatelyas she is overwhelmed with the proposals. After,Walter reveals he is now willing to take Mr. Lindner's deal in order toregain some of the money he lost andtells his family of the plan. The rest of the familyisn’t pleased with this information and has lost respect for Walter.
  • Walter,in the middle of the conversation with Mr. Lindner, changes his mind andtellshim the family will be moving into the home. Everyone in the family felt relief and were joyful that Walter changed his mind. As the moving men are downstairs, the rest of the family followed outside. Mama, though, forgets her plant and goes back inside to retrieve it. She reflects on the home before she leaves once again. The Younger family would be beginning a new chapter of their lives in Clybourne Park.
