  • The Fish tank, a body of water that is held together by glass or acrylic, depending on the size of the tank determines what type and how many residents can live inside the tank. 
  • The other method requires time, it involves certain types of bacteria that feed on the toxins and as a result the waste becomes far less harmful to the fish, as the bacteria feeds on nitrates and ammonia. The first method is by using substances like activated carbon which absorbs all of the toxins in the water, however you do have to replace them once a month which can be expensive. The filter, one of the most crucial pieces of equipment when owning a fish tank as it breaks down all of the fish’s waste, it can do this in two different ways. 
  • Bettas can also breath to a point all thanks to a special organ called the labyrinth which helps them live in murky and low oxygenated water, this is why you can see them gasping at the top of the tank.
  • The feelers have evolved from pelvic fins into long sensitive strands, and because some of those feelers get long, it is not recommended to keep gourami fish with fin nippers.Gourami’s can also be very curious fish, and occasionally they will explore a new item or fish through the two feelers, located under their gills, in the wild these feelers are used to find food, potential mates and to navigate in murky water.
  • A male has started scavenging through the substrate for food, his whiskers detect something edible, then he starts digging into the gravel for his snack, being a bottom feeder, he will eat anything at the bottom that he can chew, once he has found what he was looking for then slurp.Delicious!
  • Gold fish grow very large so make sure you have a very large tank or you can put them into larger tanks as they grow bigger.With a fish his size he would eat anything that he can fit into his mouth so don’t put danios, platies, endler guppies, cherry shrimp or small pond loaches in to avoid them becoming an appetiser.This Common goldfish started off asa tiny feeder fish but has now grown so much that he is the largest one in this tank.
