  • 1803: Brits and the French were fighting wars for money. $15 million was bought which meant $354 million a day. This would double the territory of the USA and it would open up more doors for the Westward Expansion.

  • Lewis & Clark visited Kansas in 1804. Their comments visiting Kansas were "Great Beauty," "Variety of game," "Deer seemed plentiful," "Abundance of wild berries." 123 miles of their 8,000 miles was in Kansas!
  • Jackson's Speech to Congress
  • 1806: Pike visited the Kansas land and commented that it was very dry and worthless. Comparing Africa to Kansas.

  • 1819: Stephen H. Long visited Kansas having a very opposite reaction to Lewis and Clark. He called Kansas "The Great American Desert." This influenced government policies to change because that name stuck to Kansas.
  • 1829: Jackson's speech talks about sharing land with the Natives, complaining about how happy everyone already is. These "savages" would be better off not sharing our land.
  • 1830: East Americans were forced to relocate in a different area around Kansas. This caused tension to drive between other tribes and many other tribes found it difficult for living conditions.
