Texte du Storyboard

  • Why, Where, Who, When, What and How.Legends:Some iwi speak of the seven Matariki stars as a mother and her daughters. The mother is Matariki, and her daughters are Tupu-ā-nuku, Tupu-ā-rangi, Waipunarangi, Waitī, Waitā, and Ururangi.
  • Traditionally, Matariki was a time to acknowledge the dead and to release their spirits to become stars. It was also a time to reflect, to be thankful to the gods for the harvest, to feast and to share the bounty of the harvest with family and friends.
  • Matariki is celebrated every year in late June or early July in New Zealand to celebrate the first rising of the Pleiades star cluster. Though dates vary from year to year, this year, Matariki will be celebrated on July 14.
