- The King and Queen were extremely unpopular prior to the revolution. France was in a financial crisis, but that didn't stop Marie Antoinette from wasting the people's money. Meanwhile, King Louis XVI neglected his duties as the ruler of France even though the people were suffering.
- Storming of the Bastille
- We want justice!
- The Estates of France were basically the social classes. The First Estate was made up of the clergy, the Second Estate consisted of the nobility, and the Third Estate included all of the commoners. Even though members of the Third Estate were the poorest, they were forced to pay all the taxes while everyone else lived comfortably.
- Women's March of Versailles
- We want bread!
- Because their one vote would always be defeated by the votes of the first two Estates, members of the Third Estate formed the National Assembly. One day, their usual meeting hall could not be accessed, so they gathered at a nearby tennis court. There, representatives took the Tennis Court Oath, promising that they wouldn't separate until the kingdom was replaced by a nation of independent citizens.
- Execution of King Louis XVI
- Tired of paying for the King's extravagant palace and lavish parties, the people attacked the Bastille fortress. This prison represented royal authority and only held a handful of inmates. The Storming of the Bastille is an event that symbolically marked the beginning of the French Revolution.

- In France, bread was scarce and sold at a high price that commoners couldn't afford. Over 7,000 women marched to Versailles demanding bread and changes to the government. This Women's March to Versailles was a significant event of the French Revolution because it demonstrated the people's power.
- In 1793, King Louis XVI was executed by guillotine. He was charged for treason, which is why he was sentenced to death. He ignored the needs of his subjects by failing to address France's financial issues.
- My people, I die innocent!
