- Matilda Loisel was never content with her life, she suffered incessantly, feeling that a beautiful woman like her was meant to be living a life of luxury. It was as if through an error of destiny that she was born in a family of clerks, with no hopes of ever being known,she allowed herself to be married to a clerk.she was unhappy and only thought of all the things she didnt have. She despised the shabby walls and worn chairs of her home,the poverty of her apartment tormented her.
- UGH! I hate this ugly apartment,, someone like me deserves to live in an opulent mansion
- I wish I could eat exquisite food served in shining silver instead of this simple pot pie
- Her husband, was an easygoing man, he worked as a clerk in the office of the board of education.He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life.
- AH! what a delicious meal, I love a good pot pie!
- One day her huband returned home with exciting news ,he had brought with him a letter, the letter was an invitation to a magnificent ball. not every one was given such an invitation and they were hard to come by. the ball was going to be a fine one and many memebers of the official world will be present there. It was the sort of ball that Matilda Loisel had always dreamed of.
- Here, I have something for you!
- Matilda read the invitation, instead of being delighted as her husband had hoped, she spitefully threw the inivitation upon the table.
- What do you suppose I want with that?
- But.. but.. my dear, I thought you would be happy to go to such a fine ball, Everybody wishes to go such an occasion, and it is very select not many invitations were given to employees.
- I have no dress fit to wear to such an occasion, I cannot go to this ball. give this invitation to some other colleague whose wife is better fitted out than I.
- Matilda Loisel started weeping, her Husband stammered as he tried to console her, he was stupified , in dimay at the sight of his wife weeping .
- Let us see matilda, how much would a suitable dress cost?
- I cannot tell exactly, but it seems to me that four hundred Francs ought to cover it.
- Matilda thought for a while, thinking of sum that she could ask without bringing with it immidiate refusal and a frightenened exclamation from the economical clerk
