- I'm Thomas and I was a slave, along with my sister Birdie, and my brother Clem. There was a list of rules that could stretch out for miles, but one of the main rules was that a slave was forbidden to learn how to read.
- The war of Gettysburg
- While in the forest, my sister and I ran into two Northern soldiers. We got scared and threw a skunk at the soldiers and then ran away. Later we met them again and the soldiers were kind and had us help in the war of Gettysburg while they lead us out of slavery.
- Clem loved reading. Sadly, the reading soon got him into trouble with the slave owner, Mr. Knox. That's when we knew we needed to run. Unfortunately, Clem was unable to escape.
- A brutal war went on between the North and the South. To my sister and me, the war felt like it lasted for an eternity. Once the war was over, the North was declared the winner.
- Birdie and I went to live in the North where we received an education. We moved into a home and the thing they love most about the north. was the fact that it snowed.
