  • That's a good idea!
  • Since it is our break time, what if we go to Ms. Dizon's office? Are you all g?
  • Can you please continue your lesson now? Pleeaaaseeee!
  • Ms. Dizon we want to know what happen when the Spaniards colonized the Philippines!
  • Ok, ok.
  • Filipinos are indios. Did they really think we will let them prin their own native literature?
  • Ellos son estúpidos! (They are stupid) Even if we will them, it should be a Christian content.
  • Ms. Dizon had left already but the students are all uncomfortable without hearing the full story of the evolution of Philippine Literature. They want to know what happened to Philippine Literature after the Spaniards colonized the Philippines. So Yuna, told her classmates to go to Ms. Dizon's office since it is their breaktime. They all happily agreed for them to hear what happened next.
  • I need to help my country by exposing the Spaniards through my works.
  • Lucky them, it is also Ms. Dizon's free time. They continue to convince their teacher until she agreed. So, she agreed to tell them, but only the Spaniards colonization because, it will consume a lot of time if she will tell the whole evolution or development of Philippine Literature. Ms. Dizon continued her story and the students listened patiently.
  • Bye Ms. Dizon. Thank you for your time!
  • Thank you also students. I'll continue it by our next meeting. For now, I need to go on my next class.
  • The Spanish colonization deprive the indigenous Philippine Literature. They were able to manipulate literature by monopolizing it under the religious order. Literature evolves mainly on the themes of Spanish/European culture and of course, the Roman Catholic Religion. As a proof of the influence the first ever book printed in the Philippines is a Christian Doctrine or Doctrina Christiana 1593 by the Dominican press.
  • In the pre-colonial era, it is hard to preserved our native literature. That's why I'm very curious what are the other literature we have in that era. In the Spanish era, I feel very sad that the Spaniards are depriving the Filipinos on our own native literature. With these, it made me wonder what if the Spaniards let the Filipinos write their own literature, instead of depriving they will help us to further enriched our literature. However, because of that colonization, it awakened the nationalistic nature of the Filipinos through literature.
  • It can be said that, Spanish colonization give way the idea of opening the nationalistic nature of Filipinos through literature under the Spaniards. Our national hero, Jose Rizal was one of the most prominent writer who was known for writing against the Catholic Church and the Spaniards. His novels, El Filibusterismo and Noli Me Tangere made a powerful contributions among the Filipinos the introduction of rejecting Spanish rule. He also influenced the succeeding writers.
  • The break time has ended and the students need to go back to their classroom as soon as possible. They still want to hear more, but they have next class, and Ms. Dizon also have her class. Ms. Dizon, on the other hand promised she will continue on their next meeting. The students bid their good bye, with a smile plastering on their lips. They must say that they spend their break time well.
