  • The First Amendment is protecting citizens’ rights of speech, press, religion, and petition. This was ratified so that way the government would not be too strong and have too much power. These rights are important today because it ensures that the government does not have too much control over citizens.
  • 5th Amendment
  • So, Ms. Johnson, where were YOU at the night of the murder?
  • The Second Amendment protects citizens the right to own and bear arms. This was ratified so that way citizens could defend themselves from the government if needed. This amendment is controversial today because there has been a lot of misuse of weapons a lot of violent, bloody mass shootings.
  • 7th Amendmnet
  • The Third Amendment is protecting from sheltering soldiers. This was ratified because the British soldiers would come on to farms, take most of their years’ worth of crops, and leave a mess behind. This is important because the military does not have to rely on citizens to clothe, feed, and shelterhundreds of soldiers.
  • 8th Amendment
  • Will I be torched to death?
  • I don't know. I mean, the can, but the 8th is suppose to stop them . . . right?
  • The Fifth Amendment protects defendants during prosecution to protesting. This was ratified so that way innocent defenders would not be cornered into showing all their negative actions, thus encouraging the jury to find them guilty. This amendment is still important today so that way defendants do not incriminate themselves.
  • Well, um, I-I was wi-. I PLEA THE 5th!
  • The Seventh Amendment requires a trial to be decided by a pool of jurors that are locals of where the defendant committed the crime. This was ratified to make sure that judges appointed by the government would not defend the government if they did something wrong. This is still important today because locals candecide the fate of the defendant.
  • Did we have to be called for this? Its a traffic issue ughhhhhh.
  • Did I HAVE to do jury duty today? I have better stuff to be doing.
  • I had to miss my daughter's play for this? I am going to find EVERYONE guilty.
  • I hate how to constitution did this to me, I am only being paid $5 an hour.
  • The Second Amendment protects citizens from cruel and unusual punishments. This was ratified so that way citizens would not be tortured for life. This is controversial today because it does not draw a line between what is considered cruel, such as the death penalty.
