- As Duke Theseus prepares for his marriage to Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons, he is interrupted by a courtier, Egeus. Egeus asks for the Duke to help him decide on one of his problems. His daughter, Hermia, will not agree to marry Demetrius (whom Egeus wants her to marry) because she loves a guy called Lysander. Theseus asks Hermia to listen to her father. He tells her she must listen to her father or else she will die or be a nun

- Upset with the offer, Lysander and Hermia plan to escape into the forest and tell their secret to Helena, Hermia's friend. Helena who desperately loves Demetrius, who has left her for Hermia. At night, Lysander and Hermia escape into the woods; but they soon lose their way there. After Helena tells him of their plan, Demetrius follows Hermia into the woods. Helena follows Demetrius in the hope that he will give up on Hermia and choose her instead.
- We should escape into the forest!
- Hmm.. I'm going to tell Demetrius about their escape! Then he fall in love with me!
- Meanwhile, a group of working men are preparing a play of the tragic love story of Pyramus and Thisbe to perform before Duke Theseus on his wedding day. Nick Bottom, is to play the lover Pyramus, while Flute, the bellows-mender, begrudgingly agrees to play Thisbe.
- Bottom, you'll play.... no you must be Pyramus... Flute you are Thisbe... yes a girl.... NICK YOU'RE PYRAMUS NOT THE LION!
