JACKIE ROBINSON
mm-hmm

Charge!!
Woo- Hoo!
Jack Roosevelt Robinson was born in Cairo, Georgia in 1919, the youngest of five children. When Jackie was sixteen months old, his family moved to Los Angeles, California.
I'm so mad!
Waaa!
After playing basketball, football, golf and tennis at UCLA, Jackie was drafted into the US Army. Here he met a soldier who played baseball in the Negro Leagues.
In 1944, Jackie left the army with an honorable discharge and played in the Negro Leagues for the Kansas City Monarchs.
I do
In the Negro Leagues, life on the road was rough. Teams never stayed in the same city for more than a day and in some places there were no black hotels so players had to sleep on the bus or outside in the ballpark.
In 1945, Jackie was recruited by Branch Rickey, President of the Brooklyn Dodgers, to play on their Minor League team the Montreal Royals.
On February 10th, 1946, Jackie married Rachel Isum. A few weeks later, the newlyweds left for spring training in Daytona Beach, Florida.
People came from all over to see Jackie play. The stadium was so full some fans had to be turned away.
Have a great game!
Thanks.
JACKIE!!
Being a black baseball player was not easy. One time in Syracuse, New York, a player on the other team threw a black cat onto the field and said it was Jackie's cousin.
Here's your cousin!
Dodgers!
