  • The Year is 1830 and Andrew Jackson has inherited the Tariff of 1828 which was passed by John Q. Adams. South isn't happy about it since it drives up the cost of European and foreign goods which are essential to the Southern economy. South Carolina has threatened to secede from the union because of this tariff and Jackson is trying to stop this from happening.
  • South Carolina has every right to nullify federal laws! The states deserve more rights than the government. The Tariff of 1828 helps the Northern economy while hurting the southern economy. Either we nullify the tariff or we leave the Union.
  • States should have the right to nullify federal laws since they may hurt or damage the states economy. With that in mind I think that South Carolina should have every right to nullify the tariff
  • The Union Must Come First! South Carolina must keep the tariff just like all the other states and cannot nullify or secede from the Union.
  • Compromise of 1833
  • I have come up with a compromise that should make both South Carolina and Jackson happy. It'll slowly lower the tariff prices over the next 10 years until they're the same as they were during the Tariff of 1816.
  • The Compromise of 1833 kept South Carolina and any other southern states in the Union for the next 27 years. Although South Carolina did have the right to nullify the tariffs they passed a Force Bill allowing the president to force whatever he deemed necessary to enforce federal tariffs.
