  • Eleanor Douglas (protagonist)
  • Physical TraitsEleanor is described as "big and awkward". She has red curly which makes her stand out. She also wears mens clothing with unique excesories that evadable make her an easy target.
  • Park Sheridan (protanginist)
  • Physical TraitsPark is more average in his appearance than Eleanor. However, he is one of the only half Koreans in his school. He is also, shorter than the average height for boys.
  • Richie Trout (antagonist)
  • Physical Traits: We are given no physical traits for Eleanors abusive "dad". All we know is that he is abusive and controlling.
  • Personality Traits: Eleanor is an outsider, and she prefers to be. Her hair alone makes her stand out, but it's her personality that defers. She is very intelligent, which makes teachers notice her quickly. She is also brave because she needs to stand up for herself since her mom won't. Since she has an abusive home life, she doesn't let people in and closes off her emotions. Throughout the book, Eleanor changes with the help of Park. When she meets Park, she connects to someone who is also an outsider, and therefore her barriers of defense slowly comedown. Motivation: Eleanor greatest motivation is her siblings. In her abusive household she wants the best for them. She would do anything for them. Relationships: Eleanor has many different relationships in her life that are all different. Her relationship with Park is a romantic loving relationship. She has a very different relationship with Richie. She doesn't like Richie but doesn't know how to step up to him. She is afraid of him because of his power in the house. This relationship makes is hard for her to make connections with people but when park comes along she is able to break those barriers.
  • Personality Traits: Park is also an outsider but not as much as Eleanor. His classmates respect him and he blends in well. Unlike Eleanor he has been with his classmates since elementary school. He avoids typical male activities including sports. Just like he helped Eleanor find herself, Eleanor helps him find himself. Throughout the book she helps him find his strength which help him stand up to his dad. He gains more confidence which encourages him to do things he would never think of trying before including wearing eyeliner. Motivation: Parks biggest motivation is Eleanor. She makes his life more interesting. Relationships: Park also experience a certain degree of abuse in his home. His father wants him to be a jock but he doesn't want to be. His father creates toxic masculinity and makes park less confident in himself. The relationship he has with Eleanor is much different, she helps him open up and become his best self.
  • Personality Traits: Richie is an abusive and controlling adult in Eleanor's life. He both physically and emotional abusives Eleanor and her mother. He is an alcoholic and a manipulator. Unlike Eleanor and park, he changes for the worse throughout the book. He has an unpredictable trait that makes it hard to identify if he will be happy or turn violent. He manipulates Eleanors family into thinking everything will be fine.Motivation: Richies biggest motivation is having control. He wants complete control over everyone and everything. He does this through manipulation and abuse. Relationships: His relationships are the most manipulative. He makes it seem like he loves Eleanors family when he doesn't. He changes them all though his abuse.
