  • In all the land, no one was better with a bow and arrow than Robin Hood. He lived with his band of Merry Men in Sherwood Forest. That was the woods where the King kept his royal deer. King Richard let people who were poor hunt the deer for food.
  • king Richard was a good king but he was very ill.
  • when king Richard passed away his younger brother John took over the land. But, king John didn't want the peasants to hunt the royal deer so he banned the peasants from entering the Sherwood forest.
  • Robin Hood didn't like this. He moved into the forest disguised in all green clothes so that he could hunt the kings deer. many other brave men joined him and became his Merry Men. They would hide within the forest to hunt and steal from the rich nobles.
  • King John hated Robin Hood and asked the Sheriff of Nottingham to set up a archery contest with a prize of a golden arrow so that they could catch Robin Hood.
  • Robin Hood decided to come in a disguise and his arrow split another bowmen's arrow in half.
