- in 1865, as commanding general, Ulysses S. Grant led the union armies to victory over the confederacy in the American civil war

- Gettysburg battle was the Confederate(the south) trying to invade the north, but was unsuccessful, because in the end the union had defeated the confederate.
- The Gettysburg address was a speech given by Lincoln and this speech was to dedicate a part of the battlefield as a cemetery to those who died.
- In 1863, Lincoln signed the emancipation proclamation, that stated all people that have slaves shall be freed.
- The siege of Vicksburg was a war against the union and the confederacy and lasted 47 days. The union was taking over Vicksburg and the unions army marched along the rivers west bank until they were south of the city, in the end the union had won
- In 1865 it was Lincoln's 2nd address. Lincoln's 2nd address he says that the cause of the war was because of slavery. Both the south and north had to share some of the blame for the sin of slavery
