  • The sword was and remains part of the dress uniform of army and navy officers throughout the world. In modern warfare, the sword along with its relatives such as the dagger or lance were used for cutting actions, stabbing or thrusting attacks. In wars, they'd been used typically in cavalry attacks on horse back.
  • Swords delivered the most damage but used the least of effort. They were fast moving and had extremely sharp blades which were deathly.
  • A sword was also part of a Squire becoming a Knight. The Squire needed to be capable of using a heavy sword with a blade one metre long at minimum. They were tested on whether they could manage holding the sword for a sustained period of fighting.
  • Medieval swords were the primary weapons of Knights. The power of one knight matched to the power of 10 ordinary soldiers all together.
  • The training of a knight to use a sword was very time consuming. They had to have been a Medieval Swordsmen to become a Knight. Knights would train with swords in a place called a Pell. Pell training enabled Knights to practice aggressive strokes such as thrusting, cutting and slicing.
  • A good sword was usually perfectly balanced in weight for the knight to swing with it easily. It was generally approached with a two hand grip but could be used one handed.
