EXPOSITION: Twelve Years Old
RISING ACTION: Letter From Jail
Set in Massachusetts, this is a story of courage, loyalty, and family. Zoe is a 12 year old girl with big dreams of becoming the next winner of Kids Bake Challenge on TV. When she hears from her father, who is and jail and whom she's never met, her world is changed forever.
CLIMAX: Finding Sarah Thomas
When Zoe receives a letter from her birth father, who is in jail for murder, she learns that he truly may not be guilty. She sets out to find the truth. She stops at nothing to make sure that the justice system protects the innocent instead of putting them away for something they didn't do.
FALLING ACTION: Another Chance
Zoe receives a letter from her birth father, Marcus, who is in jail. She soon realizes he's been sending her letters for a long time, trying to get to know her. Zoe wonders if this is true, and if so, why she hasn't received them.
RESOLUTION: A Free Man
Marcus Johnson is not guilty!
After Marcus tells her the name of his alibi, Zoe and Trevor track her down. They go to Harvard University, where she is a professor, to talk to her. Sarah doesn't remember Marcus right away, but eventually recalls meeting him at her tag sale many years ago.
Although Zoe's mom and Paul are upset that Zoe lied to them all of this time, Grandma convinces them to follow up with Sarah Thomas. They now believe that Marcus is innocent and get him a lawyer.
Marcus is able to appeal the conviction and a new trial takes place. With the alibi that Zoe found, Marcus is proven to be not guilty and is set free after 12 years in jail for a crime he didn't commit.
