Nevada was the 36th state admitted into the Union on October 31, 1864.
On October 25, 1875, the Great Fire blazed through Virginia City, leaving about 10,000 people homeless.

The Hoover Dam
The Hoover Dam construction is completed. Beginning in 1931, the dam created Lake Mead and controls the water flow of the Colorado River.
Gambling was legalized in Nevada, and would soon lead to a booming tourist population for years to come.
