  • Stamp Act
  • Britain requires the colonies to pay a tax on all legal documents.
  • Tea Act
  • The King has decided to impose tax on tea!
  • After the French and Indian war, Britain was in a substantial amount of debt. The British thought it was appropriate to start taxing the colonies and start placing stricter rules. Britain's view point is hard to understand, they believed that they protected the colonies during the French and Indian War and that it made sense for the colonies to pay them back in taxes.
  • Protests (Boston Tea Party)
  • The Stamp Act of 1765, was the result of Britain being in debt from past wars. The stamp act was the first major tax imposed on the colonies. Most documents needed a special stamp that cost money. The Americans believed in No taxation without representation
  • American Revolution Begins
  • After the Stamp Act, Britain placed a tax on Tea. The Tea Act allowed the British East India company to selltea straight to thecolonies despite the boycott, tea was a popular choice for the colonists.This act angered the colonists further which lead them to planning the Boston Tea Party.
  • Declaration of Independence
  • The Tea Act angered the colonist which lead them to sneak on to British supply boats dressed up as Native Americans and dump all the tea into the Boston Harbor. This is why this event is referred to as the Boston Tea Party.
  • Throw the tea overboard!
  • All the protests and taxes placed by the British was the cause of the American Revolution. The American Revolution was started by the event called the the shot heard round the world. The war was between the Americans (Patriots) and the British (red coats or lobster backs.)
  • The Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4th, 1776. This document stated that the Colonies were now separate from the British empire. This is known as the day America gained its independence.
