  • Eliquis is an anticoagulant or blood thinner used for the prevention of stroke and systemic embolisms for patients with atrial fibrillation also known as a fast and irregular heart rhythm.
  • Atrial fibrillation increases your risk of forming blood clots increasing your risk of stroke due to blood clots or a pulmonary embolism clot breaking free and travelling through the blood stream to the lungs or rest of the body such as the brain or heart.

Apixaban indirectly inhibits platelet aggregation induced by thrombin. By inhibiting FXa, it prevents thrombin generation and development, prolonging clotting time.
