I am Prospero, the key character of Shakespeare's 'The Tempest.' I was the Duke of Milan, with my daughter Miranda and my wife, who died before the story started.
Some people didn't like me because I spent more time reading books and finding magic than looking after the kingdom. This included my brother, Antonio.
And I, the King of Naples, don't like Prospero either!
One night, the King of Naples stormed my palace and set me and my baby daughter afloat in an old boat! A kind old counselor, Gonzalo, gave me my magic books, my staff, clothes and food.
We landed on the shores of a small island, uninhabited except from a monster, Caliban, whose mother had died years ago, and the Island Spirits.
Owwww! Please free me!
When we were looking around the island, we found the spirit chief, Ariel, trapped in a huge tree by Sycorax, Caliban's mother. I freed him on the condition he became my servant.
I hate you!
I was kind to Caliban, and not only let him share our cave but taught him how to speak. However, he began to fall in love with Miranda, and I had to kick him out.
