- there once was a father with two sons
- one of his sons demanded his share of the land and the youngest son sold his share and left
- he spent all his money very quickly instead of getting a job
- he spent it all and had to work as a pig farmer who got almost no food while his fathers workers were treated like kings
- he went to his father and said "I have sined against you and god and have come back wishing you treat me not as your son, but as a worker
- but instead the father told his workers to kill the prized calf and that they would have a feast on his sons return
