The restoration of the monarchy is marked as the return of king charles II as king. This was unpopular because the main reason being because the army and religious policies were unpopular. This brought back the sense of freedom and creativity in arts and literature that cromwell discouraged.

This led to establishment of an english nation that limited the kings power. Also it provided protection for the english subjects. It involved the overthrow of king james II who would frequently try and over step his boundaries and was replaced by his protestant daughter and her husband.
