- The baby was 3 months old, when Deziree woke up to something messing with her peace. she could not figure out what it was.
- "Armand, look at our child. What does it mean? tell me." said DezIree
- "It means...that the child is not white; it means that you are not white." said Armand
- "It is a lie; it is not true, I am white.", said Deziree, "Look at my hand; whiter than yours, Armand."
- After Deziree and the baby left, Armand reads the letter from his mother that was sent to his father while going through old letters.
- He is shocked to find out that his baby is not white, because he is not white. He immediately feels disgusted of himself, and the way he treated Deziree.
