  • Cromwell purged parliament of any members that had not supported him. The so-called Rump Parliament had Charles I executed on January 30, 1649. Europe was left horrified when their king was executed.
  • English Bill of Rights
  • We are subject to the same laws
  • The Parliament still had power and played an important part in the government. And the Parliament had suspicions about the catholic leaning because Charles took the bold step of suspending the laws parliament had passed against Catholics and puritans.
  • When England had undergone a Glorious Revolution. there was no bloodshed at all. And in January 1689 the Parliament offered the throne to William and Mary. They of course accepted it along with a bill of rights which had similar ideas to the petition of rights.
  • The English Bill of Rights created a system where everyone is subject to the same laws even a king or queen. Meaning that the monarch's power is no longer absolute.
