  • Plant Man:Attack of the Plants!
  • One day, in the greenhouses:
  • ...and that is how turgor pressure impacts seedling emergence!
  • Wow! Thank you so much doctor.
  • Suddenly:
  • I need to go, I'll be back soon.
  • What was that? It sounded like it was coming from the city!
  • CNN News Now!
  • This just in! A plant monster is terrorizing town after an experiment gone wrong at world-renowned lab trying to make plants walk and talk.
  • RRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRR!
  • When Plant Man arrives on the scene:
  • Glad I made it here in time! The trip from the greenhouses to the city can be lengthy. Well then! It looks as though someone is not feeling well!
  • Roar.
  • Next:
  • You appear to be wilting my friend! Without enough water, your plant cells' vacuoles will shrink, causing your cell wall to not be supported, and they will cave in!
  • Then:
  • You need some water. Here, have some. As I was saying, this means you have low turgor pressure, so you cannot support yourself.
  • Afterwards:
  • ROAR!
  • You look a lot better now! That water also helped you make some glucose for yourself, through photosynthesis, which should give you enough energy to get out of here. Go! Try not to cause any more trouble.
  • Back to CNN News Now!
  • This just in! 4 more plant-like creatures have been spotted! We need someone to help out now!
  • At the park:
  • Why'd it get so dark all of a sudden? It should be midday. Oh! That creatures blocking out the sun to absorb the sunlight.
  • Plant Man thought:
  • Next:
  • And then:
  • Finally:
  • My plant knowledge, powers, and tools can help with this! I'll check it out right away.
  • At the sports field:
  • You seem to be a normal plant compared to the other 2 creatures. However, I can't trust you just yet. What will happen if I try and knock you over?
  • After that:
  • Since these weird creatures are related to plants and are doing what plants do to survive, I would guess that this creature is following phototropism, or growing towards or away from light.
  • Plant Man deduced:
  • It seems to be positively responding to the stimulus of light, since it is growing towards it, like leaves, instead of negatively responding to it, by growing away from it like roots.
  • Then:
  • Its' chlorophyll, the pigment inside of chloroplasts, probably wants to absorb as much radiant energy as possible to turn into chemical energy, so it can make food for itself. If I can give it another light source that is stronger than the sun, it will grow towards that one instead!
  • Next:
  • You like this mini-sun, don't you? Its a powerful light source I carry on me. Once I throw it you will chase it, ok? Ready? Go!
  • It seems to just want to grow like an ordinary plant. It also will try to grow normally if it gets knocked over, like most plants, so that the roots can keep growing down towards water and the shoot can keep growing up towards the sun. I bet that if I put it in a pot, it will grow normally and become harmless.
  • Finally:
  • There we go! All better now. Time to go take care of the last 2 plant creatures.
  • Take this, fowl plant!
  • Hisssssssssssss!
  • Oh! I guess this creature is following geotropism, or growing towards or away from gravity.
  • Hiss.
  • It seems to be positively and negatively responding to the stimulus of gravity, since the roots are growing towards gravity and the shoot is growing away from gravity.
  • At the construction site:
  • I can already tell on this one. This plant creature is following thigmotropism, or growing towards or away from what it touches.
  • Plant Man pondered:
  • It seems to be positively responding to the stimulus of touch, since its tendrils are growing towards it. Plants would normally use this to get higher up to get access to more sunlight, which must be what this plant creature is doing.
  • Then:
  • This plant creature could be a problem if it grows towards whatever it touches. Thankfully, my powers allow me to change the way a plant works with a single phrase.
  • So:
  • If I can change the plant to where it negatively responds to being touched, it will get rid of the water in its leaves when it is touched, reducing the turgor pressure and causing the leaves to shrivel up, which will help. Let's do this! Agixe me oxi fytepste!
  • Afterwards:
  • There we go! 1 last plant creature to deal with.
  • At the lake:
  • Wow. I expected the last plant creature to be a fierce, ferocious beast, not just a creature following hydrotropism, growing towards and away from water, trying to get enough water to survive.
  • Plant Man contemplated:
  • You seem to be positively and negatively responding to the stimulus of water, since the roots are growing towards the water and the shoot is growing away from the water. However, you are not reaching the water, but I can help with that. I will just move you closer to the water.
  • Finally:
  • There. Now you can get the water you need for photosynthesis. Xylem, one of your transport tissues, will be able to transport water up from the roots to the rest of the plant now, as well as nutrients.
  • On the way back to the greenhouses,
  • Someone left this poor seed out here, and it won't be able to grow like this! Sadly, our greenhouses are full of plants, but I heard that someone was starting a garden around here. I'll give this to them as their first plant for their garden.
  • At the new garden:
  • I heard you were starting a garden! How would you like this to be your first seed? Do you know anything about the emergence of seedlings?
  • I am! I would love to have that as my first seed. What is the emergence of seedlings?
  • Plant Man explained:
  • Emergence of seedlings is how all plants grow. They start off as seeds that used stored chemical energy, water, and time to grow. As their turgor pressure increases, they get bigger, grow roots, and a shoot., the shoot uses turgor pressure to overcome the force of gravity and eventually grow a leaf and begin photosynthesis.
  • I see. What is photosynthesis?
  • Plant Man continued:
  • Photosynthesis is the process where plants make food. It begins with the pigment chlorophyll, which is inside the chloroplast, absorbs radiant energy from the sun, which it turns into chemical energy, and water is absorbed by the roots, as well as carbon dioxide. This is turned into glucose and oxygen, and the phloem will transport the glucose throughout the plant, giving it energy. This is also written as 6CO2 + 6H2O + sunlight = C6H12O6 + 6O2.
  • I understand now! I think I am ready to start my garden!
  • THE END!
  • Are you kidding me! This guy wants to start a garden and doesn't even know what photosynthesis is.
