- eventually he gets out of his home and finds sickness, age, and death, and that the inevitable fate of humans is death

- after seeing the horrors of the world he decides to meditate under a tree to gain enlightenment
- once gaining enlightenment he learned about the middle path. the middle path is a path were you aren't being poor but not rich. he used this knowledge to teach others about the middle path
- buddha died at age 80 after teaching his students so the could share his teaching which they did
