  • I'm ready to explore, but only some of you are coming with!
  •
  • Odysseus, we're trapped!
  •
  • Zeus, please help us! I need to get back at Polyphemus ASAP
  • Help me push!
  • If I tell you my name, I expect a gift. It's Nobody.
  • I want more of this drink NOW! By the way, what is your name?
  • Once upon a time, Odysseus the Greek king of Ithaca arrived to the land of the Cyclops with his friends on his ship. He was looking for food for his friends.
  • Odysseus and his friends found a cave on the land, and were curious to explore it. They saw other cyclops, lambs, and cheese. They decided to build a fire and dug into cheese while waiting for the owners return. It wasn't long until they heard loud crash near. Bang! Bang! Frightened, they rushed to a corner gathered together realizing that a large boulder was blocking the opening of the cave! In shock, they then heard a voice. A strong, deep, monstrous voice. "Strangers! Now who are you?". The person behind the voice is Polyphemus and he is a Cyclops - a one eyed giant. Polyphemus tugged two of Odysseus' friends away not allowing them to leave! Odysseus called for Zeus, the god of the sky for help to escape the petrifying experience. Odysseus was very angry with Polyphemus. After all he took away his friends and trapped him in a cave! He wanted revenge and came up with an idea.
  • Polyphemus, who did this to you?!?!
  • What's all this about if no one hurt him?He needs Zues help.
  • Nobody did this!
  • Odysseus and his friends worked together to get back at Polyphemus. Everybody was scared that they would also get taken away by him. That is why they were going to have to stand up for themselves. They used different tools to execute their plan. When night came, Odysseus offered Polyphemus a drink and some food to relax him so that he could carry out his plan. Polyphemus asked for Odysseus' name so that he could present him with a guest-gift. Odysseus tells Polyphemus, "My name is Nobody."
  • I glad that I escaped death, but am so disappointed by the friends I lost.
  • Come over here lamb!
  • Odysseus was able to get Polyphemus to fall asleep. While he was sleeping, Odysseus and the rest of his friends tip toed over to him very quietly. Sly as a fox. Everybody pricked Polyphemus skin with needles to hurt him and make him feel bad for being an unkind host to the men.
  • After Odysseus and his friends finished pricking Polyphemus they were able to escape on some of the sheep in the cave which they tied themselves to. Polyphemus woke up screaming in excruciating pain. His body was red and bloody from all the irritation. He was so loud that he woke up some of the other cyclops from their sleep. They rushed to Polyphemus to figure out what had happened, but when they asked he said, "Nobody" did it. This confused the other cyclops. The other cyclops suggested that he pray to Zeus for help.

  • After escaping the cave, Odysseus loaded his ship bringing a herd of sheep with him. On the voyage back to the island of Ithaca, Odysseus home, Polyphemus was still furious for being tricked and launched boulders towards the ship. They barely missed. Polyphemus even prayed to his father, Poseidon, to interrupt their journey to prevent them from getting home. With multiple obstacles thrown towards Odysseus and his friends way, they finally made it to the shore of Ithaca with support from other crewmen on the island. Was it worth taking the risk of exploring the cave when it jeopardized the lives of Odysseus and his friends?
