This is a major set back in battle just because they had bad food. Out of 4100 men who were fighting only 700 were able to retreat and make it back to safety.
While Ferguson was leading his army of loyalists up to Kings Mountain, Patriot troops from Virginia and North Carolina were joining forces. With a combined army and the benefits of their location the Patriots had an easy win against the British. British troops tried to surrender many times but were brutally killed for the presence in the Carolinas. This was a turning point in the Southern Campaign as they got a much needed boost of morale and lead to their victory in the last major battle.
