  • The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak, takes place in Nazi Germany in a small town called Molching. Liesel Meminger, a small and damaged girl, moves in with Hans and Rosa Hubermann after losing her brother and mother.
  • Climax
  • Just as it seems their plan to hide Max will work, Hans makes a terrible mistake. While a parade of Jewish prisoners walked through town, one fell. Hans tried to help the man and was whipped. This action forced Max to leave to be safe and Hans gets drafted for war as a punishment.
  • Falling Action
  • As Liesel is finally getting used to her new life and making friends such as Rudy Steiner, her life takes a dramatic turn. A Jewish man, Max Vandenburg comes seeking refuge from the Nazis.The Hubermanns decide to help hide Max from the Nazis.
  • Resolution
  • During his time in the army, Hans breaks his legs and returns home. However, shortly after his return, the town was bombed because of no sirens. Liesel, however, survived since she was writing in the basement. She awoke to find everyone dead, including her friend Rudy who she finally kissed after so long.
  • After the bombing, Liesel was taken in by Ilsa Hermann, a woman who Liesel stole countless books from, and her Husband. Alex Steiner, who just returned from war, comes home to find his family dead. Liesel spends a lot of time with him after he reopens his tailor shop.
  • Many years later, Liesel finally embraces Death's arms after living a long and fulfilling life. She died in Sydney, Australia after marrying, having children, and having grandchildren. She never forgot her past, but did not let it stop her from living her life.
