  • Alas, then she is drown'd. Poor Ophelia, and therefore I forbid my tears.
  • What; Gertrude informs Laertes of Ophelia's death while picking flowers from a tree, to make a crown. She fell from the tree into a river. Drowning, not realizing she was in danger.
  • Why; To inform others of a tragic event, because they were close with Ophelia.

  • "Hamlet comes back; what would you undertake to show yourself's your father's son in deed. More than in words?"
  • "To cut his throat i' the church."
  • "No place indeed should murder sanctuarize. Revenge should have no bound. But, good Laertes, will you do this, keep close within your chamber."
  • What; The King is giving reasons and idea to Laertes on how to kill Hamlet.
  • Why; The King wants Hamlet dead because he feels as though Hamlet could take away his power.

  • "Letters, my lord, from Hamlet."
  • "Laertes, you shall hear them-Leave us."
  • What; A messenger is giving the King a letter from Hamlet.
  • Why; Hamlet was letting the King know he would soon return and wanted to speak with him preferably alone.
