- Maria Eva Duarte de Perón, called Evita, died at age 33 of cervical cancer. She was beloved by the Argentine people. Juan Perón was overthrown in 1955 in a coup. Many people did not like his policies, so they forcibly removed him. He would regain power in 1973.
