Exposition: The characters in this story are King Midas, his daughter Marygold, and a mysterious creature that was not given a name. This story takes place in a time where the Earth was fairly new, in a kingdom that King Midas ruled. King Midas is a man who loves gold and his daughter more than anything, he is disinterested in anything else.
Rising action, Inciting Incident:As theking and creature gazed upon the immense amount of riches the king had in his dungeon, the creature told King Midas how impressed he was about how much gold the King possessed. King Midas then told him that this was a mere amount of gold. The mysterious creature asked him what would truly satisfy him; the king then said that having a touch that turned all to gold would do it.
Climax: The king was not able to eat as aresult of his golden touch, as an effort to comfort him Marygold went over to give him a hug. As the king reached to kiss his daughter'sforehead, she turned to a golden figure, she was no longer his living and breathing daughter. Midas was indisbelief of the change thatoccurred in his very own daughter, the absence of all he cared for.
Falling Action:The mysterious creature appeared once more, he asked the king if he was happy or not. Theking said no, in fact, he was miserable. He then pleaded to take his golden touch wish back, tohopefully, revive his beloved daughter.
Resolution: The unnamed entity granted Midas's wish as long as he poured river water on all he wanted to change back. Soon enough his daughter was no longer a golden statue, all that was turned to gold went back to its original substance. He gave up his golden touch for what was truly important. Marygold was herself again and her father, Midas was no longer consumed by materialistic values, he realized that there was more to life.
Theme / Lesson: The lesson that this story portrays is that one should be grateful for what they already have, such as love, instead of focusing on consumerist values. King Midas became wiser after realizing this, as observed by the mysterious individual. As he aged he told his grandchildren his story and told them to never forget it, that being the lesson learned.
