  • Dramatic Irony is when the reader or audience knows something that the character does not. This is an example of Dramatic Irony because Fortunato says that he is not gonna die from a cough but the reader knows that the montresor is going to end up killing him anyway.

  • Fortunato
  • Situational Irony is when an event or outcome takes place that is the opposite of what a person expected. This is an example of Situational Irony because Fortunato's name means lucky and fortunate but he ends up getting murdered by the montresor. Fortunato did not expect his life to be short, but it came to an end early on in his life.

  • Fortunato : Fortunate and Lucky.
  • Verbal Irony is when the speaker says something different from what they mean. This is an example of Verbal Irony because the Montresor calls fortunato his friend but in reality he does not like fortunato because fortunato talks bad on the montresor's name.

  • "Fortunato!! My Friend how i've missed you".
