- Once upon a time there was a boy named Anik. He lived in an Inuit tribe in Iglulik, Nunavut. The dayAnik turned fourteen was an awesome day. He celebrated with his family and had an open doorcelebration in the evening where all of his friends stopped by and gave him gifts.

- Anik walked for what seemed like hours. He was not allowed to eat or sleep, but rather focus on being present and experiencing nature and the world around him. He took notice of many different animals as he walked. As he continued through the forest, the loud noises of animals began to settle down. The forest became quiet, too quiet.
- Anik was about to go to bed on his fourteenth birthday. However, he had one final visitor, the chief. Anik was a part of a small tribe in his town, however the chief never came to visit him personally at his house. When Anik came down from his room, dressed in only his pajamas, the chief told him something he could have never expected.
- My boy, it is time. Your parents and I have agreed that you are ready to go out and discover who you are. It is time for your vision quest. Gather your things, your purification will finish tonight and you will be sent off at dawn.
- The chief told Anik...
- Anik couldn’t believe it. He was finally able to go on his vision quest! He had been waiting for this moment since the first time he had started his spiritual training. To be able to venture out on his own, into the woods, searching for his own purpose in life, it was a dream come true.
- As Anik underwent his purification ceremony, he thought a lot about his family and his purpose in life. The chief told him stories about his own vision quest and gave him several warnings as well. He told Anik;
- My boy, you must always remember, what you see is a message from the Creator. Never forget him. if you are ever lost, he will always guide you back.
- Anik was up before even the sun the next morning. As his family and the chief sent him off on his vision quest, he felt himself becoming nervous, as he remembered what the chief had told him the night before. He will be truly alone for the first time with nobody to help him, except for his trust in the Creator. Anik, now trembling, powered through and set off into the forest.

- The forest was dense. Bushes and trees covered the area like a mother bear huddling her children in hibernation. Anik always liked the forest, every time he entered it he became relaxed, his problems seemed to float away. As he walked, he thought about the chief's words again, feeling excited and hopeful this time, rather than nervous.
