  • The Acadians live in Acadia, Canada, it is located below Quebec, its history begins at the time of the French colonizers, in the early 17th century they found an indigenous town and stayed to live there, and they called them Acadians.

  • When Acadia lost against the British, many Arcadians were deported away from Acadia.Acadians have tried to protect their language and identity throughout time.
  • The Acadians had several wars between the French and the English, and after a while they lost against the British, but today it is part of Canada.
  • Acadian Economy:Former farmers became fishermen or lumber workers, farming their land only for subsistence. As fishermen, they were exploited and reduced to poverty, especially by companies on the Island of Jersey.

  • In 1746, Acadians were denied the right to vote and could not be members of the legislature.
  • From 1758 to 1763, they could not legally own land. In 1789, they gained the right of vote.
  • Almost all Acadians have access to an education in French, they have the St. Anne University in Nova Scotia and the Université de Moncton in New Brunswick, Theinstitutions offer full programs in French.
