  • The first phase is prophase which has visible chromosomes form (chromatin forms chromosomes) and its outside of the nucleus. The nuclear membrane dissolves away. The next stage is Metaphase where the centromeres are attached to spindle fibers and they pull the chromosomes. The centrioles help pull apart the chromosomes.
  • I'm starting to really understand it!
  • Then during anaphase the sister chromatids are pulled to opposite poles and when they reach the poles they stop moving. In Telophase a nuclear membrane (nuclear envelope) forms around each set of daughter chromosomes. In the final stage (cytokinesis) the cytoplasm is pinched and starts to divide forming two daughter cells.
  • If a cell divides too much then the organisms and organelles can die. Eukaryotes take longer to divide than prokaryotes because they can just copy and split there DNA. It is different in animal and plant cells because the plant cells have a cell wall but the animal cells dont.
  • DNA replication is so important because the two new must contain the same genetic information and we also need it to replicate and to have more cells and traits. A cell undergoes asexual reproduction because it needs to create an identical copy od DNA.
  • I had so much fun! I learned so many amazing and interesting things along the way. Hope to see you soon!
  • Now that we are done in the lab, I hope you have learned some interesting things today about cell division and the cell cycle!
