- the large oil tank passes by them and nearly hits them, Pi at first thinks they may be saved but the ship is so big that it can't hear his screams. He then tries to set off a flair but angles and shoots it off poorly with no avail and the ships goes on without ever seeing them.

- the storm tilted the boat at various steep inclines. After Pi says, " I was soaked and chilled, and I was bruised and cut by bones and turtle shells. The noise of the storm was constant, as was Richard Parker's snarling". (227)
- Pi and Richard Parker discover they are blind and then begin to talk about food with another "voice"

- "my heart is with you, but I mist urgently suggest we repair to another part of my humble ship". (255)
- their boats touch and the frenchman boards Pi's boat, as Pi is trying to have a sweet moment but also get them to the other side of the boat things take a turn.
- "you're damn right your heart is with me! he said. And your liver and your flesh!" (255)
- The blind frenchman goes to board Pi's boat with the intent to kill him, he gives pi a hug, but before he can kill him, Richard Parker gets to him first, killing him and then the two of the eat parts of him and use others for bait
