- I dropped my doll!
- In 1687 Kit was aboard the Dolphin and neared Connecticut. The captain's son, Nat, came over and talked to her.
- The captain's wife went ashore and Kit asked to go with her. The captain said yes so they got in a boat and rowed to shore. They picked up some passengers and went back to the boat.
- One of the passengers dropped her doll, so Kit jumped in the water. It was very cold. She grabbed the doll and went back on board. Nat jumped in after her.
- She got back on board and everyone except the girl were furious. Kit couldn't understand why they were so mad.
- Kit made friends with a man named John. Nat avoided Kit and was very mad at her.
- Nat came and told Kit that she was going to wat with Goodwife Cruff. Goodwife Cruff thought Kit was a witch. Nat warned Kit not to swim in the colonies.
