- Josef and his mother, and sister, Ruthie, thankfully got a boat to get to Cuba called the St. Louis. On the way to the boat they even found there father, though when they found him he didn't look like the man he was before, he didn't act like himself either. He would never get out of his room to eat with his family, he always thought a party on the boat was a trap. He was so afraid of the Nazi's he tried to jump off the boat to swim back to Germany! Thankfully he was saved, but put in a hospital so he wouldn't try again. When Josef thought things couldn't get any worse, he found out that the St. Louis was heading back to Germany, back to the Nazi's. Josef and some other men confronted the captain ordering him to send them somewhere but Germany, so the captain did as they pleased. Josef was sent to a country close to Germany but away from the Nazi's, he and his sister were able to go to school and live normal lives though his happiness didn't last long, when World War II came around and had to run. Unfortunately they were caught by the Nazi and Josef's mother had to choose, to either let him go, or Ruthie.
- You can take all I have, please just don't hurt my children!
- Hmm, I suppose this is enough money to let one of your children go
- Isabel, her mom, her dad, her friend, Ivan's dad, mom, his brother Luis, and Luis's girlfriend, Amara made it to Miami. Sadly her her friend Ivan was killed by sharks, and grandpa jumped into the water to distract a police boat who would send them back to Cuba so. He didn't want the police man to tell them to go back to Cuba because when he was a young man he had to tell people on the St. Louis to wait on the boat till they could go into Cuba and he got tired of telling people to wait to get to freedom so he jumped off the boat to have Isabel and her family to have freedom. Isabel's brother was born on the boat and Isabel had to carry him to shore while the others carried there mom. Isabel had to go through a lot to get to Cuba, and lost to important people to get there, but she is happy and has a knew life with her baby brother and family.
- Mahmouds family had a lot of things to go through to get to Germany. They almost were killed by people in the war, had to walk hundreds of miles, were attacked by people again, and had to wait days to get a boat. When Mahmoud thought things couldn't get worse there boat crashed and Mahmoud's little sister Hana almost drowned, thankfully a boat came and Mahmoud insisted them to take her, which they did but wouldn't take them since there were already to much people in the boat. Mahmoud and his mother felt horrible for what they did but were happy that she was okay. Mahmoud and his family were saved, but later put into a cell where they were told they would be put back to Syria. But Mahmoud didn't give up, so he kept moving forward and left the cell, he literally marched out of the cell and no one stopped him, and others marched to, they morched all the way to Germany. Mahmoud and his family found out they would be staying with a old women and old man who were Jewish, Saul Rosenberg and Ruthie Rosenberg. When Ruthie hears that they lost there sister Hana she tells Mahmoud how she lsot her brother, Josef. How he told her mother to have him go to the concentration camp instead of her. Mahmoud still feels bad for giving his sister Hana away, but is confident they'll find her again.
